Ecstasy's chemical name is MDMA (3-4 methylenedioxymethamphetamine). Street names for Ecstasy include Adam, XTC, hug, beans and love drug. In 2003, an estimated 470,000 people in the United States (age 12 and older) used Ecstasy in the previous 30 days. Ecstasy is extremely dangerous to one's health; on rare occasions, it is lethal.

Ecstasy is illegal in all countries in the world under a UN agreement, and even non-members of the UN, like Switzerland, tow the US "war on drugs" line and have made it illegal.

Successful treatment includes but is not limited to: counseling, lifestyle and treatement. Different methods are used to treat different individuals. Many programs and substance abuse treatment centers exist to aid in recovery from substance addiction.
